Week#6 at Devslopes

Introducing JavaScript

On week #6 at Devslopes you are introduce to the powerful language of JavaScript (totally not biased opinion). During the week not only are we introduced to JavaScript but you also are introduce to Node.js, it all starts with JavaScript. In this week we learn how to use functions, while loops, if/else statements and all of the foundation required to be successful in JavaScript. The addition of Node.js towards the end of the week helps you out run JavaScript without the need of a browser and that really does make a difference in your workflow, especially when working with multiple project. Instead of running multiple browser windows you can run it using Node.js and it’s faster.

End of the Week Project

In the end of the project you are to build a terminal-based calculator using Node.js. The great thing about it is, as you advance more and more while building the calculator you realize the purpose of this project. This project exercises all of the skills you’ve acquired so far, and that is the moment when everything clicks. Everything just makes sense on why and how. Even though it’s just a simple calculator, it is a very good exercise that will help you start thinking as a developer and organize your workflow.
