Getting Lost in a Sea of Courses

As we all know trying to become a developer without a degree can be a bit tedious. In today’s age there is plenty of resources, there is YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, Bootcamps, etc. This can be definitely overwhelming from someone who wants to break into tech, the questions that everyone has are “Am I prepared?”, “ Do I know everything in this topic?”… You get the picture. The short and easy and answer is YES, if you have practice and learned then you’re most likely ready BUT it’s not that easy.

Sometimes as humans we tend to over-prepare, we tend to stay up all night for test, or rehearse in front of the mirror before an interview and what happens? You freeze during the interview and your mind goes blank during the test, but “how? I prepared for this” you may say. I am here to tell you that failing is ok, failing is perfect, matter fact you should approach every challenge with the expectation to fail.

I’m not telling you to not try but to try your hardest and keep moving forward even if you fail, even if you don’t get hired, even if you fail that test. In order to become a Developer what most companies look for are projects and soft skills, they want to know if you really can do what you say. Companies don’t care about how many hours you spend studying or how many course you completed, they want to know if you can be a good investment. Companies want to know if you have the soft skills and technical skills to become a Developer.

What I want you to understand is that yes, you can continue to learn BUT focus too on making projects and exercising your soft skills, this way you have something to show. Build projects while you learn, apply to jobs while you learn and don’t limit yourself. Sometimes we think that we need to finish a course to land a job and that’s simply not the case.

Good luck to you and your path to success.
